Natural Stone

When you are selecting any natural stone product, it is very important to consider the application to ensure the suitability of the item. Choosing the correct material is a balance between aesthetics and practicality and our friendly and knowledgeable sales staff will assist you to ensure you get the best product for your project.

Slate

Slate is a dense and non-absorbent material which is known for its natural shade and colour variation. As a result of its density and low absorption rate, slate is highly resistant to stains, bacteria and heat.

Despite these natural qualities, it is still recommended that slate be properly sealed. After proper installation, it can be cleaned with a mild soap. Scratches can be buffed out.

Travertine

Travertine is also known as travertine limestone and travertine marble, even though it is neither a limestone nor marble. This stone is characterized by naturally occurring pitted holes and troughs in its surface which give the appearance of considerable wear and tear. Some installers use a grout to fill these holes, whereas other leave them open.

Travertine can be supplied with a smooth, honed finish or a tumbled; brushed & chiseled for a more rustic appearance. The colour of travertine ranges from from pale to dark cream and it is available in various sizes. As is the case with all natural stones, Travertine must be properly sealed.

Limestone

Limestone is typically more porous marble. It ranges in colour from light beige to golden brown and it is usually given a honed finish. It is imperative to properly seal limestone and care should be taken to keep it away from acidic substances.

Granite

Granite is the hardest and most durable of all natural stones. Second only to diamonds in hardness, granite resists stains and scratches.

It comes in an assortment of colours and patterns depending on the mix of minerals it contains. It is an ideal choice for countertops, however a protective sealer must be applied periodically to help prevent stains.

Marble

Marble is characterized by coloured veins set against a consistent background. It comes in an assortment of colours, however, it is vulnerable to knife scratches and food stains from acidic substances and so care should be taken when it is used for countertops.

The non-stick surface is popular for rolling out dough. A protective sealer must be applied periodically to prevent stains.
